As I pedal into the second half of my life, I must take pause to appreciate the amazing view! At fifty-years old, I’m doing what I’ve always wanted to do. My first love is writing and after years of running a successful business, I put away my attaché case and wrote a book that is near to my heart; a colorfully whimsical, semi-autobiographical look back at life. Today, a published author and professional speaker, I share my story and the lessons learned to help women through transitions, inventing the second half of their lives! My journey has not always been easy. If one’s character is built by the detours, bumps, crossroads and engulfing potholes encountered on life’s road and the tenacity or maybe a smidgeon of craziness to repeatedly get back on the bike and continue pedaling, I am sure to arrive at the pearly gates of heaven pretty darn close to perfect! I hope “He” has my overstuffed recliner waiting. I’ve worked tirelessly to become successful and financially independent by educating myself both academically and through life studies. Surviving the childhood divorce of my parents and growing up with and partially raising three precocious brothers was a lot to deal with. Additionally, overcoming the disappointment that my five foot, ten inch slender and athletically toned body frame did not insure a long tenure as center forward on my high school basketball team and accepting the fact that my bra, due to its size, was never truly worthy of burning was no easy feat either. All of this, coupled with my obsession to achieve straight A’s in high school and college, positioned me as an Olympic hopeful, a top cyclist, pedaling down the road called “Life”. At the very least, my strenuous and rigorous training made me a strong contender for the upcoming games. Yet, neither my academic degrees nor experiences prepared me for the trials ahead. I struggled to balance the demands of marriage, two children and a career. Ultimately, divorce came knocking. After twenty-three years of marriage, I had to battle guilt and failure. The Cinderella story had a new ending! At forty-four-years-old, I came face to face with two of life’s toughest lessons. Accepting the reality that no matter how fast I pedaled, I would never reach a destination called “Perfection” and learning to embrace humor to weather life’s precarious road. At best, improvement should be our never ending goal. It is the very fiber of our being. Complement this with a genuine ability to laugh at ourselves and “poke fun” at our blemishes and we have the crème de la crème! Introspection, time, laughter and all the “loves” in my life; my children, family, friends and writing not only helped me over these hurdles but made me a stronger, happier and more confident woman than ever before. I’ve gained immeasurable knowledge and skills through my life experiences. The good, bad and sometimes downright ugly have shaped who and where I am today. I wouldn’t have it any other way! Today, with the second half of my life in front of me, I am excited and passionate about sharing my newly discovered secrets of happiness with women, through my humorously profound writing and speaking presentations. With laughter as our guide, together we can continue the journey with a smile on our faces, the wind at our backs and “Pedaling as Fast as We Can!” “True Enlightenment is gained in the Journey, Not the Destination.” Learn some interesting 40+ women’s facts | Book Sandy for a speaking engagement“I’m Still Pedaling as Fast as I Can”
